Hamburg-based wind and solar park operator Encavis has acquired five solar parks with a total generation capacity of 265 megawatts from EDP Renewables Italia Holding ( EDPR Italy ), a wholly owned subsidiary of EDP Renováveis.
Three of the parks are located in the Lazio region of central Italy near Rome, while the other two are in the Puglia region in southeastern Italy. The transaction includes the sale of large land areas. The projects have been acquired together with various power purchase agreements ( PPAs ) and subsidies as well as options for capacity extension and hybridization.
Currently, the five solar parks have a combined capacity of 248MW. In addition, an expansion of the three Lazio parks by a total of 17MW is underway. The additional capacity is expected to be commissioned commercially in the first half of 2026.
Stern Energy, a PV technology specialist from Parma, will take over operations and maintenance ( O&M ) for this portfolio from EDPR after a six-month transition period.
“With the Giotto portfolio, we are increasing our solar capacity in Italy from 155MW to 420MW,” says Encavis chief executive officer Mario Schirru. “This makes us one of the leading solar operators in Italy and reinforces our leadership position in Europe. At the same time, this portfolio demonstrates how successful and strategically important our cooperation with Stern Energy is.”
Following the capacity expansion, the entire portfolio will generate an average of 423 gigawatt-hours of green electricity per year. Four of the solar parks are secured by PPAs with terms of 10 or 15 years. For the fifth project, there is a long-term bilateral contract for difference with a term of 20 years.
Encavis is one of Europe’s leading producers of electricity from renewable energy. The company operates a broadly diversified portfolio of onshore wind farms, ground-mounted solar parks, and battery storage systems across 13 European countries, including Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
In addition, Encavis offers institutional investors opportunities to participate in renewable energy assets. Its subsidiary, Stern Energy, complements the service portfolio as a Europe-wide specialist in technical services for photovoltaic systems.
